I can't believe Thanksgiving is almost here, the year is flying by. We are so excited for all the holiday fun things we have planned. We do many special crafts and traditions from years pasted during these upcoming weeks. We are also practicing for our Christmas show which is always adorable! I can't wait until you are all welcomed in to the classroom to see us in action. We love having parties, but they will be much better when our parents can come.
Next Tuesday, we will do a Thanksgiving celebration. We will send home a party in a bag again that we will have that afternoon. We would also love if anyone would want to come on zoom and do a craft or read a Thanksgiving book. Devin's mom was awesome last time. It was a big hit having her on the big screen!
Phonics- Today we did the Unit 4 test and the children all did well. I am really pleased with the phonics skills this group has. They all know their sounds and use their tools to read and write these words. We are getting into more rules and more difficult concepts, but I feel confident they will keep moving along. We start each day with drill sounds, then we do magnetic boards and white boards. They learned about the bonus letter. At the end of a one syllable word, if the word has one vowel that is short and immediately followed by f, l, s at the end, double that consonant. The extra letter is considered a bonus because it is extra. The bonus letter does not make a sound so we don't tap it. Students were also introduced to their first glued sound -all. For example: ball, wall, mall, tall. The bonus "l" in all changes the vowel sound. We will continue practicing this concept during remote next week. In Unit 5 we will be reviewing the am and an glued sounds. Look in your child's folders to see their test, if you have time you can review any mistakes they may have made.
Trick Words for this Week- Test Friday
Fall Fun- We loved our Science lesson on the Fall Senses. We explored the outdoors. We decided what we could see, hear, taste, touch and smell in the Fall. I posted these on the FB page, but just incase you didn't see them.
We wrote in our Science journals all about what we had observed.
Then we colored the leaves on white paper against the windows. The kids loved this activity!
