November News from 1b!

In phonics, students learned about the bonus letter. At the end of a one syllable word, if the word has one vowel that is short and immediately followed by f, l, s at the end, double that consonant. The extra letter is considered a bonus because it is extra. The bonus letter does not make a sound so we don't tap it. Students were also introduced to their first glued sound -all. The bonus "l" in all changes the vowel sound. We will continue practicing this concept during remote next week.

Trick Words for this Week- Test Friday
We are going to take another week to review our past trick words.  Many children are getting mixed up now that we added in a lot of more difficult ones. They should be practicing each night, the list is in their yellow folders.

Oral Reading- Reading at home with your child each night is so important. We have learned many of the sounds now and the children should be becoming more fluent and confident in their skills. If you need help or suggestions on good books at your child's appropriate level let me know and I can help you find some great books for them. Mrs. Ferguson has been so good to us the past two weeks as our library specialist. Her library cart is filled with amazing books, the kids love seeing her come through the door!

Look at these readers.. our remote learner is showing us the boo she is enjoying!

In Math, we are working on the plus 5's for our weekly math facts. In class, we are working on how addition and subtraction sentences are related. For example, 5+3=8  and  8-5=3
We will have our unit test at the end of the week. The children are doing a daily math review each day when they come into school that will help them review past concepts so that they continue to build on these skills.

We have so much to be thankful for these days, we have been talking all about it in Religion class. We are most thankful the great weather and our health. GOD IS GOOD! Getting outside twice a day has been so helpful for the kids learning and focus.

Thanksgiving Feast was Amazing! We love our Kitchen Crew!
