Our First Great Week
The students were working hard this week in first grade! They have settled into their new routines nicely, we are so proud of them! How lucky am I to get a whole year with this crew!
This week in phonics, we reviewed the consonants: t,b,f, m, n, as well as the vowels: i, and u. We discussed the corresponding keyword and sound for these letters. We also practiced the lowercase letter formations using the Wilson writing grid. On the grid, the pictures indicate the names of the lines: the sky line, plane line, grass line and worm line. We practiced using correct pencil grip and writing position when writing.
In math, we began Unit 1 on understanding addition. We learned about spatial patterns and learned about numbers in terms of part/part/whole. For example, there are parts of 8. 6 is a part of 8 and 2 is a part of 8. 8 represents the whole set.
In religion, we learned about how God created the world. We prayed and gave thanks for all of His creations.
Getting to know each other- The Children did a great job with their All About Me sharing bags.. Thank you for taking the time in helping them get these things together
