We are really getting into the grove here in 1b! These kids are motivated to learn and are still asking for more homework! I think at this point they are definitely just loving my reaction when they ask for it, but I'll take it. First grade is a lot of work, so as you may have noticed these kids are TIRED. They will build stamina and become more familiar with the routine, but a god nights sleep is always helpful.
Upcoming Events-
Tuesday, September 21st- Grade 1 MAP TESTING- If your child can get a good nights sleep and eat a good breakfast it would be helpful for our morning of MAP testing

Since we are not having Open House this year, I thought it would be nice to have you in and see our class and your child's desk. If you are free next Monday from 5:00-5:30, we would love to see you in 1b! You can peek around and I can answers any questions you may have. If you cannot make this time, please let me know and I am happy to have you at another time.
After a long day we have a lot of fun ending out day with Go Noodle dance parties!
In math, we are working on different strategies to use when solving addition problems. We have been using the number line, the ten frames and counters. We do a lot of math fact drill in first grade. Every night the children will have a math fact sheet so they can start to memorize these facts. On Fridays, they will have one minute to try and complete the number fact we worked on that week. This will not count as a grade, it is a fun game that motivates the children to practice during the week.
In Science, we have been having fun with our Friday science experiments. The children have a science journal where they write about what we have learned from our lesson. Last week we did the pencil through the ziplock bag trick. We only had a little water on the floor and so many happy faces. They were all screaming at cheers for each other as the pencil was going right through the bag filled with water.
